Its official - Foxy Brown is rated in Melbourne Top 100 coffee destinations according to The Age Newspaper's special coffee feature in The Age on 23/02/2012!!!!
New menu / New Kitchen Rules:
Of course our all day breakfast menu still runs till 3pm including all breakfast dishes, burgers and the like!
And from 3pm to 4pm we're running with our cabinet menu of salads, sandwiches, organic sausage rolls, frittata - and the like...
And from 4pm to 5pm its coffee and cake, and sandwiches (if we haven't sold out that is)
The main reason for this change is that now we are busier than ever, and the new menu times allows the kitchen some prep time in their busy schedule - which would not be possible otherwise!
Stop the press: Foxy is now offering cold drip filtered coffee prepared to exacting standards over an eight hour slow infusion process!
Here's an example of the finished product packaged and ready for take-home or consumption off premise
| From 2012-02-13 |
Cold filter coffee (depending upon how it is made) retains lovely oils and concentrated sweetness but eliminates acidity and other harsh components delivering a wickedly devilishly tasty brew which is oily, complex, sweet, and 'sticky,' with fortified wine and Pedro Ximenez-like characters
It's now on the menu and served over ice for 'dine in' consumption - or you can grab a bottle from our drinks fridge to takeaway and imbibe at your leisure - we also offer a $0.50 refund on the returned bottle for take-away cold filter bottles to encourage recycling
Our packaged cold drip filter coffee is mostly processed over night, then packaged fresh daily - and as a natural product with nothing artificial added is ideally designed for same day consumption, and should be continuously refrigerated and served cold, either over ice or, if you prefer, straight from the bottle
It will however continue to improve over time and is generally at it's best one to three days post-production, but will keep in the fridge for up to a week (if you can resist the temptation that long!) with little noticeable deterioration of flavour
As a long, slow infusion process, it is quite heavy in caffeine, however, approximately twice that of espresso based coffees - so one 45ml serve contains approximately as much caffeine as three espressos - which is why we recommend slow imbibing as opposed to rapid consumption, and the caffeine content needs to be taken into consideration when consuming
Which is why we dont recommend this product for anyone 16 yrs of age and under, or anyone with a caffeine intolerance - speaking from personal experience, however, I have found that the caffeine uptake from cold drip filter coffee, especially if imbibed slowly over say a 30 minute period (which is very easy to do if served over ice as the flavours are so concentrated that you really need time to savour the flavours)
Be sure also to check out the following available by pour-over and or as espresso based coffees
Mexico San Cristobel Terruno pure washed aribica (pulped natural now also available)
Honduras Fernández Cup of Excellence Lt 15
and there's still a little bit of the El Salvador Adia Battle Selection - strictly limited and arguably one of the finest coffees you will ever taste!

Ok so it's the new year already - how did that happen?
We're back in full swing here at Foxy - as no doubt you are as well - and we've been busy behind the scenes fine tuning and refining what we do and scouring the globe to bring you the best seasonally harvested coffee that we can find!
And with the new year comes a few new changes as we welcome our NEW head chef, Elisa - yet another Kiwi who joins us after her extensive stint in the UK where she headed up some of the finest kitchens in the land
We welcome her contribution and hope that you will join with us in embracing the changes that her experience brings
Expect to see more daily specials on the menu board and in the cabinet as well
As expected our organic burgers - organic beef burgers, marinated tofu burgers, free range chicken burger, and haloumi burger - all lovingly prepared on Dench soughdough rolls - are taking off in a major way, and are just the thing for an afternoon snack or a takeaway meal (available till 4pm)
And our all day breakfast menu (till 3pm that is) featuring Frank's organic eggs, and free range bacon, among other things, is as popular as ever, and runs alongside our more savoury items, such as soup, salad, zucchini fritters, and panini
Coffee and cake are available till 5pm daily
In fact coffee forms a integral part of our offerings here at Foxy Brown - as on any given day we'll probably be running with several espresso blends, as well as a bunch of single estate coffees - AND filter coffee, which is roasted specifically for our unique Clever Coffee Dripper application, and then ground to order and individually hand crafted.
For the uninitiated filter (or pour-over coffee as it is often referred to) uses (in our case) a paper filter to trap oils and acidity, and to allow the coffee to brew for a predetermined interval - which brings out and captures the aroma and unique characteristics of the coffee's origins
Each cup is different and (hopefully) an unexpected pleasure - which in no way detracts from our excellent espresso-based offerings, but which offers welcome respite for those who, like me, suffer from 'palate fatigue' from drinking too much 'regular' coffee!
And with triple sized filter baskets and a double ristretto base standard for every espresso-based coffee that we make - our coffee packs a pleasurable punch, providing added bang for your buck!
And DEMTER certified biodynamic and unhomoginsed milk completes the picture - providing unsurpassed creaminess in every cup
And being located off the beaten track doesn't hurt either, positioned as we are opposite the train tracks on South Crescent, Westgarth (ok... some folks refer to it as Northcote, but what would they know?) - exactly half way between Dennis and Westgarth train stations on the Hurstbridge line
With plenty of parking available, we welcome little ones and have been listed in Melbourne's top ten family friendly cafes two years running!
And yes we have a change table and an enclosed rear courtyard (weather permitting) which is just the thing for the rug rats to run around in
And did I mention that we have free wireless internet?
So we look forward to seeing you soon at Brown Town for some awesome tunes, and yummy food, and coffee so good that you'll consider crossing town for it!
